Taylor should be able to have a bigger role for Nebraska Football in 2019.

We talk all the time about the playmakers that Nebraska Football has on the offensive side of the football. It is worth noting however that Nebraska football possesses playmakers on the defensive side of the ball as well. For some players, it is just a matter of where they fit into the scheme of things. For defensive back (for now) Cam Taylor, that is the case. That should definitely work to his advantage.

More from Husker Corner

After playing sparingly in 2018, he wants to be able to make an impact in 2019. However, as noted by a report from Clark Grell of the Lincoln Star-Journal, ($) there are still some questions as to what position he will play. That’s what I think will make him so exciting in 2019. Eventually obviously, he or the program will have to decide on a position. However, his versatility will be an asset to the Nebraska Football program. Having a player that the program can plug in multiple positions where he can play effectively is certainly an asset.

Especially when a player like Taylor wants to work hard, that certainly helps his case to see more playing time. Typically, freshmen don’t receive a ton of playing time unless they are an elite prospect or someone that the program desperately needs to fill a void. He is not playing games and is taking no prisoners. That is the kind of attitude and toughness you wants to see on a defense. Of course, talk is cheap. He needs to show that he can contribute. So far however, all signs point him to being a key part of the Nebraska Football defense.

"“I have problems with knowing where to place Cam,” (defensive backs coach Travis) Fisher said. “He can be a safety, an elite one, or he could be the same thing at corner, which is a good problem.”"

For those wanting Taylor to find a set position, there shouldn’t be any worry. That will probably take place during preseason camp in August. Right now, the program should focus on getting him acclimated and comfortable to a point where he can contribute to the defense. At the end of the day, maybe he won’t have a set position. Maybe he will be a hybrid-type of player that can cover a receiver one play and then play like a linebacker and come down and make a tackle the next.

It will all probably come down to where Nebraska Football needs Taylor to play the most. He will be an interesting player to watch come preseason camp. Wherever he goes, he should be able to be effective. His versatility should be crucial and valued by the program. He is certainly a sleeper player to watch come next fall. He may not be the leader of the defense, but he should have his hand in providing stability and impactful play for the unit.
