The Nebraska Football alum is already beginning to gain interest from some teams.

One Nebraska football player is getting closer to recognizing his dream of playing in the National Football League. Although he may not be your prototypical star player, he would certainly be an asset to a NFL team. Luke Gifford told media on Wednesday that he has received interest from a couple of teams.

Gifford represented Nebraska Football well and always played hard on the field. He recorded 62 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 12 games played. His best game of the season came on September 8 in the season opener against Colorado. In that contest, he recorded 11 tackles and a sack and a half as Nebraska Football fell short at the hands of the Buffaloes by a 33-28 score. Gifford would put together another solid performance against Minnesota on October 20, recording nine tackles and a pass deflection as the result was much better for the program. They defeated Minnesota by a 53-28 margin.

It’s great to see Gifford getting interest from NFL teams. He is not the type of prospect that is going to be drafted in the Top 10, but he is the type of player that can certainly help out a team. He has the tenacity and aggressiveness to play well for a team, especially if they need him to stop the run game of the opposition. He is visiting with the Minnesota Vikings on April 2, so that could be a potential landing spot for him. One thing teams seem concerned about with him is his injury. He told the media that he talked with quite a few teams after the Nebraska Football Pro Day a couple weeks ago.

"“I talked to quite a few teams afterwards, so obviously I think it showed people that I am a good athlete and that I can play at the next level, and that’s all I needed to do,” Gifford said."

I hope he can make the big show. He certainly has the talent, but more so I’m worried that he will mess up his future more if he does not make a NFL roster. All the time he could have spent trying his hand at something will have been lost trying to reach his goal of making a professional roster. It will be interesting to see the steps he takes in order to try to make it to the National Football League. It certainly is not going to be an easy road.

Nevertheless, I give him credit for putting himself out there and seeming open to the thought of professional football. It is a hard decision to make because once it becomes a job, that can sometimes take the fun out of it. For Luke Gifford, it seems as though he is setting his sights on being yet another Nebraska football alum to make his mark.
