Davis is ready to make a good impression for Nebraska Football.
It seems like Nebraska football is taking the concept of teamwork very seriously, and that’s a great thing. Carlos Davis is among those who realize the impact he can leave on the program.
The senior defensive end realizes that although it may be his team this year, it will be the players watching his example that will be the future of the Nebraska football program. With a bunch of senior talent on this team, it will indeed be the younger guys who will step up and try to carry on the tradition of Nebraska football after Davis leaves Lincoln.
Speaking to Brian Christopherson of 247Sports on Friday, Davis indicated that he realizes he needs to be able to set an example for the team that they can carry with them.
"“When I leave, I want to leave an impact that they can just take this thing and keep the ball rolling,” Davis said. “My biggest thing is teaching these younger guys, because they’re going to be running the show.”"
That quote stood out to me. When I read it, I was very pleased by it. For one, too many football players are all about themselves. Whether it be worrying about their draft stock, their playing time, and whether they will be noticed on national TV many of them want the spotlight to themselves. That does not seem to be the case with Nebraska football and that is refreshing to say the least. With this quote, it tells me that Davis gets it. He knows that as a senior leader, he has to be able to set a good example. Especially from a player who figures to be a big part of the defensive line, these are encouraging words to hear. A successful team stems from good leadership.

His quote fits in with the culture that Nebraska football is trying to create. This program wants players who work hard, who have accountability, and who are ready to win football games. Davis is certainly ready to do all three. If he is able to set this type of precedent for how players should act in the future, then we should expect many winning seasons moving forward. Davis gets it, and that is great to hear. Of course, actions speak louder than words, but I have no doubt that he will be able to teach the younger guys and be a positive influence for them.
Nebraska football will be in good hands with Carlos Davis leading the way. Hopefully that will translate to wins and many fun Saturdays in Lincoln.
