Nebraska Football: NFL teams begin meeting with Stanley Morgan Jr.
The Nebraska Football alum is beginning to get some clarity in regards to his National Football League dreams.
Stanley Morgan Jr. has certainly earned the right to be in the National Football League. After putting on an impressive show at the NFL Combine last week, he has already begun to set up meetings with some National Football League teams. He did not participate at Nebraska Football’s Pro Day on Thursday, but he did manage to get some work in with backup Ryker Fyfe at quarterback.
One of the teams he is scheduled to meet with was in the playoffs last year and is led by one of the top quarterbacks in the game. The New Orleans Saints would be who I am describing, and he has a meeting with the organization set up in April per a report from Evan Bland and Chris Heady of the Omaha World-Herald Bureau. ($) The Saints are likely not to be the only team wanting to meet with Morgan, as his skillset would translate very well into the professional ranks.

As many of you can probably recall, Morgan tore up the Big Ten and the rest of college football last year. Catching 70 passes for 1,004 yards to go along with four touchdowns, he was truly a big-play threat. Averaging 14.3 yards per catch, he had a great senior season and concluded his Nebraska football career very nicely. His best game came against Illinois on November 10. In that contest, he caught eight passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Averaging 16.4 yards per reception, he spread the field nicely and kept defenders on their toes. A 37-yard grab was his longest on the day.
Morgan would finish his Nebraska career catching 189 passes for 2, 747 yards and 22 touchdowns. It is safe to say that he gave opposing defense’s nightmares after every game.
The thought of pairing Morgan with Saints quarterback Drew Brees is crazy to think about quite frankly. When you consider how accurate a quarterback he is, and how effortlessly he can make deep passes, it could be the perfect connection. His 74.4 completion percentage led all of the National Football League last year. In addition, his 8.3 yards per passing attempt put him sixth in the entire league. That would certainly pair well with Morgan’s game as is not afraid to make big plays either.
Especially with New Orleans playing in a dome, that could work to Morgan’s advantage. We have seen how much better Brees plays in a dome. The crowd gets into it, the ball seems to fly out of his hand a bit, and the receivers really step up and make plays. Those variables could be the perfect environment for Morgan to succeed in. Not only that, he would be part of a contending team right away. A potential trip to the playoffs would make his rookie season all the more memorable.
It will be interesting to see what other teams Morgan meets with prior to the draft. One thing is for certain: Stanley Morgan Jr. is going to be a prized draft pick and whomever selects him will be very lucky.
