Nebraska Football: Cam’ron Jones is ready to bounce back
The safety should be able to make an impact for Nebraska Football.
Safety Cam’ron Jones is looking to have a big year in 2019. After all, it couldn’t get much worse than the 2018 season when he was hurt in camp last year. Now, he looks to become one of the top safeties in the conference and figures to be a major part of the Nebraska football defense.
Speaking to the media last week, head coach Scott Frost said Jones has been getting after it in the weight room. That is certainly great to see, especially after an injury setback. . However, it appears that Jones will not let the scare of injury stop him from continuing to work hard and pushing forward.
"“Sometimes as a freshman, things just happen. Cam got hurt in camp last year, and he’s killing in the weight room now. We haven’t really even gotten a chance to see what he can do yet, but spring ball is going to give him that opportunity.”"
As many of you may recall, he was a highly-touted prospect in Nebraska football’s 2018 recruiting class. He was given a four-star designation and was ranked 289th overall, the 23rd overall safety, and the 36th overall player in the state of Texas per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He officially committed to the program on January 27, 2018.

As a senior in 2017 for Mansfield (Texas) High School, Jones recorded 80 tackles, a sack, and an interception. Averaging 6.7 tackles a game, he proved to be a ballhawk and a player who is not afraid to be in the middle of a play. Now, Nebraska football hopes he can get healthy enough this year to be able to be that same impact playmaker.
Nebraska ranked 75th in all of college football last year in terms of passing defense. They gave up 2,853 yards in total on the season. In addition, they surrendered 6.7 yards per pass attempt. Their 237.8 passing yards allowed per contest put them 78th in all of college football. Those are numbers that certainly need to be improved upon. With his physicality and ability to be aggressive, Jones would be able to fill a void there.
This spring ball is a big one for Cam’ron Jones. He has to prove that Nebraska football made the right choice by bringing him to the program. Undoubtedly, he will face competition, but he should be able to handle it. If his high school highlights are any indication, Nebraska football has a very good, physical safety on their hands.
