Checking in on the battle up front
Nebraska isn’t in terrible shape along the offensive line but anytime you have to replace your starting center and you don’t have a clear replacement, it can lead to some concern.
And that’s what the Huskers are dealing with right now as they try to find someone who can take over the job for Tanner Farmer. One candidate though is going to be Cameron Jurgens, who came to the program as a tight end and was a four-star recruit out of high school.
Jurgens has put on some weight and is up to 270 pounds now and he is one guy that could challenge for a job, Will Farniok, AJ Forbes and Hunter Miller are the others in the competition, although Farniok could also start at either guard or right tackle.
Farinok started 12 games at tackle last season for the Huskers, but there are indications he could move opening up a chance for a younger guy, maybe even highly-touted Bryce Benhart, a 6-foot-9 incoming freshman, to fill that spot at tackle.
Ideally, Jurgens would lock down the starting job at center and that would leave the Huskers basically in search of one other starter at guard or tackle to work alongside Farinok.
