Armstrong represented Nebraska Football well on Saturday.

It’s always exciting to check and see how Nebraska football alumni are doing, and for Tommy Armstrong, things are heating up in the Indoor Football league. Playing for the Nebraska Danger, Armstrong and the team had their second game on Saturday against the Green Bay Blizzard.

After recording a win in his first game, it did not go as smoothly for Armstrong and company. Losing by a narrow 53-52 margin, Armstrong had a little bit of trouble reading the Blizzard defense. He went 14-of-23 on the evening, throwing for 134 yards two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also was sacked one time. Even still, it is important to look at the positives. He had a 60.9 completion percentage and averaged 5.8 yards per attempt.  All things considered, those numbers are not terrible, especially for indoor football.

The game was one of the back and forth  variety, as both teams could not seem to stop one another defensively. Perhaps Armstrong’s best performance of the evening was a 29-yard touchdown pass to Greg Dent Jr. with 1: 17 left in the game. That gave  Armstrong his sixth touchdown of the year, which puts  him second overall in the entire league for touchdown passes. However, that left way too much time on the clock for Green Bay as they marched down and scored the game-winning touchdown with 25 seconds left in the contest. It was certainly a heartbreaking way to lose the contest.

Armstrong is showing that he can hold his own with some of the best in the Indoor Football League. Much like he did for the Nebraska football program, he is leading a Danger offense that is very potent. They currently rank fourth in the entire league in total passing yards with 291. If there is one thing they can really hang their hat on to this point, it is their running game. They have rushed for 227 total yards on the season which is second in the league. With 518 yards of total offense to this point, that is good for third overall.

So far it has been a mixed bag of results for Armstrong. That is certainly okay, as indoor football plays at a faster pace than the game on the field. It will be interesting to see what he does for the rest of the season, and if he can continue to help his team put up big-time numbers. If he can, that would be a major development for him and his career. The Danger’s next game will occur on Saturday, March 9 as they face off against the Sioux Falls Storm.
