The secondary is stepping up

There is certainly a culture change going on for the Nebraska football program and it was evident at Monday’s press conference that the players were taking notice themselves. Linebacker Mo Barry in particular noticed the turnaround in attitude from the cornerback group. That is certainly encouraging news as Nebraska football heads into the spring.

Per a tweet from Evan Bland of the Omaha World-Herald, Barry notes that there has been an improvement in leadership at the position. “The leadership in that group is where it needs to be.”

This is certainly encouraging news if you’re a Nebraska football fan. A secondary is a huge part of the football team and despite the fact that there were some good moments from that group last season, they left a lot to be desired. However, there has been improvement from guys like Lamar Jackson in terms of attitude, and players like Dicaprio Bootle looks to continue to build off the success from last year. I would imagine Bootle in particular is doing a lot of the leading. Now in his junior season, he knows what type of play it takes in order to be successful.

It will be interesting to see how that position group does the rest of spring practice. If they can keep this leadership up, that is a huge boost to the team. As you know, leadership does not have to come from only one particular position or player. It can come from whoever steps up and wants to take on the challenge of being the guy other players turn to. The secondary is certainly a group that can take on the role.
