Nebraska Football: Perrion Winfrey could be disruptive force
Winfrey on the defensive line would be a great get for Nebraska Football.
We all know Nebraska Football is no stranger to recruiting the junior college football circuit. Friday was no different as they offered a 2020 prospect the opportunity to play for the program. Defensive lineman Perrion Winfrey is a name to watch out for as the program thinks he can make an impact.

Winfrey is not ranked in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but he does have some big-time offers on the table from several schools. In addition to Nebraska, he also has offers from Florida Atlantic, Iowa State, Miami, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech. That is certainly not a bad list at all. Nebraska football certainly has some competition on the recruiting trail. Competition does not seem to faze Nebraska when it comes to recruiting, and that is what’s made Scott Frost so successful this past recruiting cycle.
This past season for Iowa Western, Winfrey played in 11 games totaling 27 tackles and four sacks. He also forced a fumble. It was a truly impressive season for the freshman, as he made his mark on the Iowa Western defense early. Now, after one impressive season in the junior collegiate ranks, he looks to take his talents to an NCAA program. There will certainly be many potential suitors lining up for Winfrey’s services, and Nebraska football will probably be in the thick of things. If I had to take a guess, I would say that whether or not they can land Winfrey depends on how successful they are in the 2019 campaign. There is a lot riding on next season, and recruiting certainly plays a part in that.

What could he bring to Nebraska football? For one thing, he can bring play recognition to the table. He is very good at shooting the gaps after reading a play, and making the tackle. Especially for his size (6-foot-4, 300 pounds) his ability to shed blocks is very impressive. He would be particularly effective in stopping an opponent’s run game, which would be crucial in a Big Ten conference that prides itself on offense. His ability to bullrush his blocker is very impressive, and that could potentially disrupt the pocket of the quarterback as well.
It will be interesting to see where Winfrey will end up. One thing is certain: Nebraska Football is very much in the mix for his services. This probably won’t be the last time you hear his name. Hopefully, it is from us as we are discussing his future as a Nebraska Cornhusker.
