Can Nebraska basketball pull off the upset Thursday?

Nebraska basketball gets set to take the court Thursday night against the ninth-ranked Michigan Wolverines. In a game televised on ESPN, Nebraska basketball will look to pull off the upset against a Wolverine team that is still reeling from a loss on Sunday. Although it will not be an easy contest, Nebraska basketball should be encouraged by the way they played against Purdue. Although they did not get the win, there were certainly some good things to take from it. Now, Nebraska basketball will try to play the role of spoilers as they look to gain a bit of momentum with the Big Ten tournament coming quickly.

In Nebraska basketball’s last contest, they were defeated by Purdue by a narrow 75-72 margin. In defeat, Glynn Watson Jr. had a tremendous game. It seems as though he has broken out of his slump, and he showed that on Saturday. He led the way with 29 points, going 10-of-20 from the field and five-of-nine from behind the arc. In addition he proved that he could rebound the basketball, totaling four on the afternoon. It was great to see him be able to make another big impact in the game and find his groove once again.

James Palmer was also a big reason why the game was as close as it was. If a four minutes, he struggled. Although he went to-of-12 from the field and one-of five from the three point line, we saw a bit of the Palmer of old. He drove to the basket more, and as a result found his way to the free throw line. He went 10-of-10 from the line and also played the role of conductor of the offense. Dishing out eight assists, he made sure that when the ball was in his hands, everybody had a chance to be involved in the play.

If Nebraska basketball wants to win Thursday night’s game, they have to watch out for freshman sensation Ignas Brazdeikis. He leads the Wolverines with 14.4 points per contest and scored 16 in the team’s 77-70 loss to Michigan State. Junior center Jon Teske is another player the Cornhuskers have to be mindful of. He averages 9.6 rebounds per game and Nebraska as always this season has struggled regarding the basketball.

In the KenPom rankings, Michigan is ranked seventh while Nebraska is ranked 43rd. They certainly have their work cut out for them against a tough Michigan team.
