Nebraska basketball isn’t likely going to make the NCAA tournament but is there any hope for an upset tonight at Michigan?

With three games left in the regular season, even if Nebraska basketball were to win out, it probably wouldn’t do any good in regards to the NCAA tournament.

Nebraska basketball is 15-13 overall. The Huskers are 1-7 on the road in the Big Ten and they are 5-12 in conference play. If someone wants to say that team still has an outside shot at consideration, I would say they are crazy.

At this point, the Huskers can make March Madness one way and that’s by winning the Big Ten tournament. However, that doesn’t mean Nebraska has nothing to play for in these next three games because they do.

With Purdue, Michigan and Iowa ahead for the Wolverines, Nebraska is going to need at least one win to reach the NIT most likely. And while some might scoff at that, the Huskers aren’t above going to the NIT especially after their early exit from it last season.

A win tonight would likely lock up a big to a pretty challenging field. It could also save Tim Miles job. Beating top-10 teams on the road tend to give your program some positive momentum and Nebraska needs some positive energy heading into the Big Ten tournament.

That being said, does Nebraska basketball have a shot tonight?

It really depends on which team shows up. Michigan is much deeper and the Wolverines have a size advantage inside. The Huskers have to figure out how to stop Jon Teske, Ignas Brazdeikis and Charles Matthews from getting to the hoop and controlling the paint.

The defense will need to be stellar and Isaiah Roby is going to have to do a hell of a job on the boards. Glynn Watson will also need to at least play even against Zavier Simpson on both ends of the floor.

The key might be James Palmer, who is the Huskers leading scorer but he is on a cold streak and is shooting only 36 percent from the field. If he shows up and has a big night, the Huskers could have a shot but beating Michigan on the road, where the Wolverines have lost only once in a year will be difficult.

Thomas Allen, Watson, Roby and Palmer will all need to be hitting from 3-point range and the Huskers have to find a way to hold their own on the boards. If all that happens and the Huskers can find themselves, an upset isn’t outside the realm of possibility.

This Nebraska basketball team just hasn’t had much of a pulse lately. However, if the Huskers can find one tonight, they might just have a chance.
