Nebraska basketball still has an outside shot at the NCAA tournament but the Huskers need a win at Penn State tonight and here are three predictions.
Believe it or not, the Nebraska basketball team still has a shot at earning an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament. But if it’s going to happen and if the Huskers are going to keep those hopes alive, they need to win at Penn State tonight.
While it might seem far-fetched that a team which is 15-11 overall and 5-10 in the Big Ten is still alive, it’s the truth. Nebraska may not be on the radar in some of the bracketology projections, but the Huskers have some quality non-conference wins and the chance to close strong.
Beating Penn State, the last place team in the Big Ten might not seem like a big deal, however, the Nittany Lions are a much better team than their record (9-16, 2-12) and in the latest batch of NET rankings, they are No. 70.
And according to the quadrant system used by the committee, Penn State would be a quadrant 1 win for the Huskers, which would give them their third overall. The other two came against Clemson and Indiana.
Nebraska basketball is in desperate need of more quadrant 1 wins and they will have plenty of chances because right now, all five of their final games would qualify. But, after starting 3-10 in the Big Ten, the Huskers have to finish strong and win at least four of these next five games.
Maybe then, especially if NU can win another game or so in the Big Ten tourney, the Huskers can sneak their way into the field. But it won’t happen unless they win tonight and here is a breakdown as well as three predictions for Penn State.
