Nebraska basketball scored a huge win over Northwestern Saturday night at the Vault and here are three takeaways on what it means for the Huskers.

Earlier this week, Nebraska basketball ended a seven-game winning streak with a win over Minnesota. And then, Saturday, the Huskers did something else they haven’t in a while as they beat Northwestern to win back-to-back games.

The 59-50 win wasn’t the prettiest. In fact, it was kind of ugly. Both teams shot in the ’30s and Nebraska basketball won the game shooting 32 percent from the field. Yet, a win is a win and with the Huskers NCAA tournament hopes on life support, a win was required.

Early in the season, the defense was the ticket for Nebraska. The Huskers were getting after people and even though their offense was flawed, it didn’t seem to matter as much. The formula was defense and finding key buckets when needed to win and that’s what NU did against Northwestern.

Glynn Watson came up big for the second straight game and finished with 12 points. But late, he put it away thanks to two daggers. The first was a 3-pointer and the second was a long jump shot that basically put the win on ice for the Huskers.

Senior Isaiah Roby also put together a huge game with 19 points and 16 rebounds. He was also stellar on the defensive end in what was one of his best games in a Nebraska uniform. James Palmer also scored 13 points despite making just 3-of-17 from the field.

That was one of the ugliest numbers of the night. But the most beautiful was the 59-50 on the scoreboard in favor of Nebraska at the end and with that in mind, here are three takeaways.
