Nebraska Football Is planning for the future.

Nebraska football is continuing to stay busy on the recruiting trail even after National Signing Day. On Thursday, they offered 2021 dual-threat quarterback Jalen Milroe. Milroe announced it via his Twitter.

Milroe has not been ranked by 247Sports. He currently has five major offers under his belt. In addition to Nebraska, Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, and Tulsa have all offered Milroe. Just this year, he has seen a greater amount of activity in regards to his recruitment. Stephen F. Austin offered him on January 29. Tulsa offered him on January 31, and he attended Texas A&M’s Junior Day on February 3. He received his first offer in December 2018 as Houston extended an offer on October 27.

More from Husker Corner

There is no doubt he has plenty of talent. In the 2018 season, he performed well for Tompkins High School. The Katy, Texas native amassed 1,420 yards and 10 touchdowns. On the ground, he proved to be effective as well. He carried the rock 124 times for 609 yards and 10 touchdowns. He truly embraced the role of a dual-threat quarterback.

When you watch his film, it is hard not to be impressed. He has tremendous running ability and is also very quick on his feet in the sense that he can make sharp cuts. In addition, he throws well on the run, something that would translate well in today’s era of football. Once he finds some open space on the field, he turns on the jets and is very hard to catch. I just hope for his sake that he perfected his sliding technique.

What would he bring to Nebraska? He would bring a player that could be cataclysmic to the offense. Perhaps most impressive is his breakaway speed. That would fit in well for a Nebraska football program that is looking to generate more offense. Especially if you look at Milroe as replacement for Adrian Martinez if he heads to the NFL Draft, offense will be key for the program. I like what head  coach Scott Frost is doing here. He is planning for the future and making sure that he at least has weighed his options moving forward. That is the sign of a well-run football program. Milroe could usher in a new era of Nebraska football.

We still have a long wait to go before we even think about Signing Day 2021. However, it is never too early to make sure that you have depth options for the program. That is exactly what Frost and the Nebraska football program did on Thursday with this offer.
