Nebraska Football is taking a serious approach to the weight room this offseason.

Half of the battle for a winning football program is buying into what the head coach wants. Last year, Nebraska football may not have done that as head coach Scott Frost was a new figure at the post. As a result, strength and conditioning may have suffered. That does not appear to be happening this year.

From the mouth of the coach himself, Nebraska football has done really well in their winter strength and conditioning program as they are focused on getting ready for 2019 and living up to the hype that so many media outlets have put on them.

With a revamped roster and talent on both sides of the football, it is hard to not get excited about what the 2019 campaign may have in store. As you all know, it starts in the offseason. Guys have to buy into the programs made by the coaches and work hard in the weight room if they want to be successful. With a great mix of veteran and young talent, if Nebraska football can put it together and focus up in the offseason, they should have a great 2019. So far according to Frost, they have been doing well with the offseason program.

"“Last year, we had guys that couldn’t even get through workouts that had no idea how hard we wanted them to work, and weren’t motivated to do it. Looking down this year, we’re not starting from square one this year. We’re starting in a good spot. I love what I see. I love the good weight that people have put on. I love the look of the bodies and I love even more the attitude that I’m seeing down there. So that’s where you can really transform your team and make it bigger, faster, stronger, and more importantly make it tougher and more close-knit. I see really good things happening in there.”"

This to me means a couple of things. For one, it sounds like Frost has really made his mark on the program in only his second year. It has shown up on the recruiting trail, and now it is showing up in the weight room as well. It sounds like the players are really starting to buy into what the Nebraska football coaching staff wants them to do. Last year by all accounts was a test year. Players were adjusting to the new systems on both sides of the football and they were getting accustomed to how Frost would run the program.

It certainly seems like a culture change. That is definitely a good thing, as Nebraska football has to compete with some of the best programs in college football. The Big Ten conference is not for slackers and people who want to take the easy way out. It is competitive every single Saturday and heading into 2019, that does not appear to be changing anytime soon. Frost has seemed to be able to instill the value of winning to this team in particular. Now in year two, they know what to expect from him and what he expects out of them.

It will be interesting to see the Nebraska football spring game and how the team has changed. Yes, the spring game will not reveal everything. As a matter of fact, most of the time the spring game is a very vanilla affair. Even still, there is a lot of hype surrounding this team. Hopefully, all the work that the team is putting into the offseason program will translate onto the field into 2019.
