Nebraska football has been looking for a pass rusher throughout the last month to add to its 2019 recruiting class and Monday, the Huskers missed out again.

It wasn’t long ago that the Nebraska football team seemed to have a lot of momentum when it came to the 2019 recruiting class. However, after missing on its last few targets, the Huskers are running out of options for players to add to this year’s class.

National signing day is set for Wednesday and that is when players will be free to sign once again. Unlike some other top programs, Nebraska football has stayed busy and zeroed in a slew of recruits with just three scholarships left to offer.

After missing out on fast-rising defensive end Dylan Jordan last week, the Huskers were hoping one of those scholarships would go to four-star defensive end Steven Parker. However, on Monday, Parker committed to Kansas.

Parker, who de-committed from Texas Tech after head coach Kliff Kingsbury was fired, ended up going to Les Miles and the Jayhawks, thanks in part to a former Texas Tech coach who joined the Kansas staff.

That kind of thing matters in recruiting and even though the Huskers pressed as much as they could with Parker, it always felt like an uphill battle. The commitment of Parker to Kansas comes on the heels of Soni Fonua committing to LSU Sunday. He was a junior-college prospect that visited Nebraska football in mid-January.

With both of those guys off the board, Nebraska really doesn’t have any other options for adding a pass rusher. Nebraska is hoping to get a commitment from Demaryion Houston, who is set to announce Wednesday, yet there isn’t anyone else on defense the Huskers have been after, at least in 2019.

After that, the other name to know is John Bivens, who has been leaning Nebraska but apparently hasn’t been given the go-ahead for signing day. We will see if that changes now. If Houston and Bivens, both four-star players, join the 2019 class, the Huskers will have just one opening left, which could be used to pursue a graduate transfer.

It’s possible that Nebraska football finds another 2019 target to pursue and possibly even sign in the coming days, however, at this point, it seems more likely that the Huskers will look to the transfer market to find some pass rush help.

And if Houston ends up going elsewhere, it’s possible that the Huskers don’t fill any of those final three spots.
