Nebraska Football  will certainly miss Devine Ozigbo.

It was a very good day for Nebraska football. They were represented well in the East-West Shrine Game, as one particular player improved his draft stock over the course of the week and then put together a solid in-game performance.

Devine Ozigbo performed well in practices in preparation for this game and it showed on Saturday. He finished the contest with four carries for 14 yards with an 11-yard scamper being his longest of the afternoon. He also managed to reach the end zone, although it remains to be seen if he will be credited with a touchdown since Boise State product Brett Rypien mishandled the handoff.

More from Husker Corner

He had a tremendous senior season in 2018, rushing the ball 155 times for 1,082 yards and 12 touchdowns. His best game of the season came on September 29 against Purdue. In that contest, he rushed the ball 17 times for 170 yards and two touchdowns. He would go on to have  to have more spectacular games like the Purdue affair, putting up great numbers against Minnesota on October 29. In that game, he carried the ball 12 times for 152 yards and two touchdowns. A 59-yard scamper was his longest of the afternoon.

Ozigbo would finish off the season in style, posting one more 100-yard game on November 10. In a 54-35 win against Illinois, he would carry the ball 11 times for 162 yards, averaging 14.7 yards per carry. He truly showed what kind of big-play potential he had.  Performing well this season was important for him. When you think of big-time playmakers, you think of them belonging to schools such as Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State. To be able to be recognized nationally for Nebraska especially in head coach Scott Frost’s first year was big for everyone involved.

Putting together a nice week at the East-West shrine game should only do good things for him. He has certainly earned the opportunity to play in the National Football League. Perhaps one overlooked statistic is that he caught 22 passes for 203 yards in 2018. His ability to be a dual-threat running back will be key in today’s National Football League. With the skill set he has just as a running back, there is no doubt in my mind that he will be able to succeed at the next level.

Ozigbo improves NFL Draft Stock. dark. Next

Ozigbo represented Nebraska well on Saturday. Now, we wait and see if he will be taken in the NFL Draft. If that happened, that would just be another great day for the program. Thankfully, Nebraska football has seen a lot of successful days lately.
