Nebraska Football is in good standing with the elite safety.

The Polynesian Bowl set to take place on Saturday, could be big for Nebraska football. Four-star safety Noa Pola-Gates is set to announce his commitment at the game. Choosing between Arizona State, Nebraska, and USC, Pola-Gates was originally committed to Alabama but both parties decided to go in a different direction.

Per predictions from 247Sports, Pola-Gates has been predicted by 81% of the experts to go to Nebraska. Alabama holds 10% of the predictions while USC holds 5%. This would certainly be a big pickup for the program if he is to commit to Nebraska football.

More from Husker Corner

He had a tremendous senior year in 2018. In 12 games, he tallied 57 tackles, five interceptions, one tackle for a loss, and seven pass breakups. He caught three passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns, showing that he could be a productive player on the offensive side of the football. He also proved to be a decently effective runner, carrying the ball 15 times for 139 yards.

Nebraska football is currently loaded at the cornerback position. In the 2019 class,  Javin Wright, Myles Farmer, and Quinton Newsome look to add stability at the position. They also have a pair of playmakers already on the roster. Dicaprio Bootle and Lamar Jackson (not to be confused with the Baltimore Ravens quarterback) would fit that distinction. Pola-Gates is not set to arrive to wherever he decides to go until the summer per a report from Mike Schafer of 247Sports.

Measuring in at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds, Pola-Gates is not exactly the biggest cornerback. However, there is no denying that he makes a major impact. When you watch his film, one of the first things you will notice is his quick feet. He does a very good job of staying square with his man and not allowing receivers to get an upper hand on him. That speed would be very useful for Nebraska. They certainly need fast defensive backs in the wide-open Big Ten conference. He would be a great deterrent for opposing quarterbacks and with his excellent coverage skills, that would allow for the Nebraska defensive line to be able to get to the quarterback.

Next. Three bold predictions for Adrian Martinez in 2019. dark

If Nebraska could land this commitment, that would be huge. He is another recruit that would make an instant impact right away, and bring tremendous versatility and speed to the Nebraska football secondary. If they miss out on a commitment from Pola-Gates, they certainly have enough depth to withstand missing out. If they were able to land a commitment from him, that would be another great get for Scott Frost and the football program.
