Nebraska Football has a lot of potential with Martinez at the helm.

Nebraska Football should be in good hands come 2019 with sophomore quarterback Adrian Martinez leading the charge. After coming off an impressive 2018 season in which we saw a bit of exactly how he could make Nebraska better, Martinez is ready to learn from the adversity and situations he faced last year.

All things considered, he did not struggle as much as many freshmen quarterbacks would. He put together an impressive season that showcased all of his talents. In doing so, he made himself the clear-cut quarterback for the future. With that in mind, he and head coach Scott Frost could help elevate the Nebraska Football program further in 2019. With the work that Frost has been putting in on the recruiting trail and expectations for Martinez to be even better, that combination could spell success.

It sounds as though Martinez is ready to take on the challenge of leading this football team. In an interview conducted on Friday with Greg Sharpe of Husker Sports Network, Martinez said he is ready to take on the challenge of being a leader. This should make many Nebraska fans excited about the future.

"“No doubt, no doubt,” he said in the radio interview about rising in that regard. “I’m excited about this new challenge. I think last year my play can only get better, and I think I can only improve as a player, as a person. I think the guys on the team respect my mentality, and I’m really trying to establish myself as that leader, as someone they can look to be consistent on and off the field.”"

I know it sounds rather cliché for him to say this. He is after all the starting quarterback of the program. Even still, in all the interviews that Martinez has conducted that I have read, he sounds focused and ready to get going. Sometimes, quarterbacks do not embrace the challenge of being a leader. They just go out there, throw the football, and go through the motions. That does not seem to be the case with Martinez. It sounds like he is ready to take the challenge head-on and become the face of this program. That is very good to hear and see. Especially with his success as a freshman, it is refreshing to hear that he is not resting on his laurels.

This team should look a lot different in 2019, and I think it will. With another year spring ball under his belt, Adrian Martinez should come into next season looking a bit more polished. He can certainly make it happen.  He sounds ready to take the next step and thrive as the face of the program. That should bode well for the future of Nebraska success in 2019.
