Do offenses really win championships?

People love to use that saying — defense wins championships. But after the last version of the College Football Playoff, it’s worth asking if it’s even true anymore.

Now, Clemson and Bama both have a great offense, so you can see why so many points were scored. But, if you watched those teams during the season, their defenses were great too. Unfortunately, against some offenses, it just doesn’t seem to matter.

The game is so wide open now and there are so many athletes, it’s just hard to defend the entire field. Teams with the ability to put together dynamic offenses seem to have a huge advantage and in that department, Nebraska football is well ahead of the curve.

The Huskers went over 400 yards in eight of their last nine games last season and with a bunch of playmakers set to return, as well as the genius of Frost, this could be the best offense in the Big Ten, maybe even one of the best in the country.

If that’s the case, Nebraska should win a lot of games. The defense will need to improve and at the very least, it will need to be opportunistic. And obviously, a lot of things need to go right for the Huskers to make the College Football Playoff, however, when you really lay it all out, it may not be as ridiculous as it sounds.
