Nebraska Football: 3 reasons Huskers are a playoff dark horse

Nebraska football is getting plenty of love, not only as a top-25 team for 2019 but also as a dark horse for the playoffs and here are three reasons why.

It has been an interesting week for Nebraska football. Not only did the Huskers honor former head coach Frank Solich, but they also got swept up in a bunch of preseason hype.

Of course, with the national championship game concluding Monday, the first thing just about every major college football media outlet did was release the way-too-early rankings for next season, while others started releasing favorites to win the College Football Playoff next season.

These things are always fun to talk about and debate, but really, they are meaningless. Anyone who watched the championship game realizes that Clemson is going to be the favorite as long as Trevor Lawrence in the quarterback and Dabo Swinney is the head coach.

Alabama also isn’t going to be far behind. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was Clemson vs Alabama Part 5 next season. In each of the last four years, they have met in the playoff; three of those games were in the championship and now they are 2-2. Clemson has two titles in that time and so does Bama.

It’s become one of the greatest championship rivalries in the history of the sport. I mean when it the last time two schools met this frequently over a span of a few fears with national titles on the line?

But what was interesting is that on the lists of national title contenders for next season, Nebraska football keeps making appearances. The Huskers are behind the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, Clemson, Alabama but that’s pretty much it. The oddsmakers give the Huskers about the eighth-best chance of winning it all next season and just about everyone has them in their top 25.

While I am not convinced Nebraska can win it all, a run at the playoffs isn’t really that far fetched and here are three reasons why.
