Nebraska Football is already getting noticed for 2019.

The confetti has barely fallen on Clemson’s national championship celebration and already, Top 25 rankings are coming out. Recently, Nebraska football has not been in any of these as they try to rebuild their program. However, that is beginning to change. Tuesday, USA Today put out a poll with Top 25 rankings for the 2019 season. Nebraska made the cut.

The poll was very kind to them, ranking them No 21. That put them ahead of Wisconsin, who checks in on the list at the No. 23 spot. I know it’s only a preseason poll and we should not really get too excited about it. The fact of the matter is, I am. To go from finishing 4-8 last season to even being considered in a Top 25 poll is a big leap. That means the national media is beginning to take notice of what Nebraska is doing and the type of talent they have on the roster

It all starts with sophomore quarterback Adrian Martinez. After having a successful freshman campaign in 2018, he will look to take the team to new heights. Combining those aspirations with a head coach like Scott Frost means that they are very attainable. Frost has made it clear that he wants to win and he has tried his best to surround Martinez and the program with talent. They have a bunch of promising recruits coming in and those are only the recruits we know about right now. Who knows what will happen on National Signing Day. The potential to land even more talent is possible.

Even reading USA Today’s explanation on why Nebraska will finish as the 21st -ranked team in the country got me excited. Published earlier on Tuesday morning, it sounds the national media is beginning to take notice of what the Nebraska football program is trying to do. After the success that the program has had in recruiting so far, recognition seems only appropriate.

It’s only a matter of time for Nebraska. Behind Scott Frost and quarterback Adrian Martinez, look for the offense to explode. What the Cornhuskers need is to get bigger and stronger overall and develop far more consistency defensively. If so, this is a team that will at least double this year’s wins.

dark. Next. Is Dylan Jordan the next Shaq Griffin?

This team is certainly on the precipice of success. They certainly have the talent to do so and this coming season should be a whole lot different than 2018. I truly believe that this is the year Nebraska football will break out. If that is the case, fun times lie ahead.
