Nebraska basketball struggled from behind the arc Sunday.

Nebraska basketball put up a good fight once again, but like Wednesday they were not able to get the job done as they lost to the Iowa Hawkeyes by a 93-84 score.

The story of this game was the three-point shot-making. That is usually a strength of Nebraska basketball, but Sunday it seemed like they just could not keep up. It should have been seen as a bad omen when Iowa hit their first two three-pointers of the game. One of the things that was very noticeable about this game was that Isaiah Roby and Glynn Watson were both very active. Whether it was taking shots or rebounding the basketball, they seemed to have their hand in almost every play. Isaiah Moss and Joe Weiskamp served in that role for Iowa as well. They seemed to be able to take over the game, and Weiskamp in particular was effective, knocking down a couple three-point shots in the half.

Again, the big story for Nebraska basketball was their lack of an ability to rebound. In total, they were outrebounded 38-28. They just could not seem to be able to grab the basketball, and Iowa did a nice job of making sure they got extra chances.

The second half was rather frustrating as Nebraska missed six out of  seven shots while Iowa went on a 7-0 run. One thing that was noticeable was Nebraska’s basketball’s lack of hitting the three-point shot. In total, Nebraska basketball shot an abysmal 17.4% on three-point attempts. In the meantime, Iowa was the one shooting the lights out from behind the arc. They shot 45.5% from deep, aided by the play of junior guard Jordan Bohannon.

Iowa did a nice job of stifling  shot opportunities for James Palmer. Palmer had a difficult game from the field, going 6-of-15 on field goal attempts, while going 0-for-5 from behind the arc. He even struggled a bit at the free throw line missing 8-of-11 shots. I don’t mean to pile on him here, it’s just so rare to see Palmer have a game like this. Then again, he is human so I suppose he will be off his game every once in a while.

The game was close throughout but Iowa just pulled away. The second half scoring ended up being in favor of the Hawkeyes by a 49-44 margin. Nebraska was able to get the game as close as four points thanks to an Issac Copeland layup but a three-pointer from Bohannon would increase the lead even more. After that, Iowa just pulled away and was able to secure the victory.

With the win, Iowa improved to 12-3 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. Nebraska now falls to 11-4 on the year and 0-2 in conference play Their next game will be against Penn State on Thursday. The game will be played at home and can be seen on ESPN2. Tip off is scheduled for 8 PM CT.
