After four days off following Wednesday’s loss  over Maryland,  Nebraska basketball continues conference play on the road against Iowa.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Iowa Hawkeyes face off Sunday in a matchup of two upstart Big Ten teams. In the second game of conference play for both programs, both teams come into this game looking for a win. The similarities are striking as both teams also were upset by their respective opponents in their last contest. Now, they look to get back on track in what should be a fantastic game.

Nebraska basketball lost their last game to Maryland by a 74-72 score. James Palmer led the way with 26 points but it was not enough. Glenn Watson also provided nice complementary scoring, totaling 12 of his own. The biggest story of the game for Nebraska was the fact that they were outrebounded by Maryland 38-28. That was noted to be a problem heading into this game, and unfortunately it reared its ugly head, often in inopportune moments.

Iowa was given a challenge as well. Playing an upstart Purdue team, they lost by a 86-70 score. Freshman Tyler Cook led the way for the Hawkeyes, scoring 24 points and grabbing six rebounds. Junior Isaiah Moss did his part as well, chipping in 13 points. Even still, it was not enough to defeat Purdue. Now, the program has their work cut out for them as Nebraska basketball will be hungry, looking to win this game.

In the Kenpom rankings, Nebraska basketball sits at No. 13, while Iowa checks in at No. 46. One player Nebraska basketball has to watch out for is Cook. He leads the program with 17.4 points scored per game. The Hawkeyes have good complementary scoring as well, with sophomore forward Luca Garza averaging 12.7 points per contest. With Garza and CooK both leading the team in rebounds as well, they are truly multi-tool players. Nebraska will have to key on them the most.

Key to the Game

The biggest key for the game for Nebraska basketball here would be rebounding. They struggled with it in their last contest against Maryland, and the challenge does not appear to be getting any easier on Sunday. They rank tops in the conference in offensive rebounding with 39 on the season and 13 per game. Rebounding was an area that Nebraska struggled against Maryland, and they will need to clean that up in order to win on Sunday. They cannot allow second chance points to Iowa or else it  could be a long afternoon. Especially in a must-win game, Nebraska needs to make sure that they maximize every possession.
