Nebraska football is using the All-American bowl to make a final push for four-star safety Noa Pola-Gates, thanks to some help from signee Ty Robinson.
Over the next few years, Nebraska football expects to get a significant contribution from newly signed four-star defensive end Ty Robinson. Yet, before he has even played a down for the Huskers, Robinson is already doing his best to make them better.
And Robinson is doing it by trying to recruit four-star safety Noa Pola-Gates, Nebraska football’s top remaining target, to sign with the Huskers on national signing day next month.
While Pola-Gates won’t officially be able to sign with any schools until the signing period opens up again, he will be announcing his commitment at the Polynesian Bowl (Jan. 19), but you can catch a glimpse of him, as well as Wandale Robinson, Ty Robinson and Bryce Benhart, three top Husker signees at the All-American Bowl, which takes place Saturday at 12 PM CST (NBC).
Nebraska is in a battle for Pola-Gates along with USC and Alabama. Right now, on 247sports, USC and Bama each hold 29 percent of his crystal ball predictions. The Huskers sits at 21 percent with 21 percent also undecided. That’s where Robinson could come in and since Pola-Gates is his roommate for the week, it seems like a great chance to sell him on NU.
If you haven’t had a chance to see what Pola-Gates can do, here is a glimpse of his highlights from the practice field this week. The 5-foot-11 safety/cornerback is ranked as the 153rd-best recruit in 2019 according to 247 sports while ranking even higher according to Rivals (114).
With the way that spread offenses have taken over college football, getting a kid like Pola-Gates would be huge for Nebraska. Not only can he cover, but he is also a solid tackler and position versatility is also something that can be extremely valuable.
More and more, you see safties converting into nickel corners. It makes sense to have a guy in the slot that can both cover and hold up against the run. Pola-Gates could be that kind of defender and regardless of the position, Nebraska football can definitely use more speed on that side of the ball.
Whether the Huskers are able to lock down a commitment from Pola-Gates remains to be seen, but for now, Nebraska is doing all it can thanks to some help from Ty Robinson.
