Nebraska Football: Huskers legend Tommy Armstrong to play for Danger
Nebraska Football legend Tommy Armstrong will continue his playing career.
Once a star for the Nebraska football program, former Cornhuskers quarterback Tommy Armstrong will find work in the state of Nebraska at the quarterback position. On Wednesday, it was reported by Bob Harmar of the Omaha World-Herald that the Nebraska Danger of the Indoor Football League signed Armstrong.
Armstrong had a tremendous career for Nebraska football. He started in 44 games and played from 2013-2016. I’m sure many remember the impact he made his freshman year. He took over the starting job at the midpoint of the season and led the program to a 7-1 record.

That was just a glimpse of what Armstrong would accomplish. He would finish his career with 8,871 passing yards, 67 passing touchdowns, and 91 total touchdowns. Those are all program-bests. His career in the National Football League was not as successful. He was not picked in the 2017 NFL Draft but was brought to the Minnesota Vikings camp during the spring. Playing both safety and wide receiver, he was cut by the team later in the year.
It will be great to see him back in the state of Nebraska. As far as college football goes, he was one of the program’s best players in recent memory. He gave it his all every time he stepped on the field. Any time he was in a game, you always felt like Nebraska footbll had a chance to win the game. He was an exciting player to watch and personally, he was one of my favorite quarterbacks in college during his playing days.
The Danger open their season in a few weeks. Set to begin play on February 23, they will play the Bismark Bucks at the Heartland Events Center. I will be interested to follow his progress. I hope he does well. I definitely think he still has something left in the tank. Especially in an indoor football league, his dual-threat style of quarterback play would fit perfectly. He certainly deserves a chance to be able to play.
The football career of Tommy Armstrong is not over. Hopefully, he will find success with his new opportunity and be able to make the state of Nebraska proud. In many respects, he already has. Now, he will take the next step as he looks to make a name for himself in the indoor football circuit. I am confident that with his skill set, he will be able to do so.
