Nebraska Football may have a future star on their hands.

He’s a name that Nebraska football fans should be hearing about for years to come. Incoming quarterback Luke McCaffrey is set to move on campus next week as a new era of Nebraska football begins to take shape.

There is no doubt that this kid has tremendous potential. He comes from an athletic family and has shown a tremendous ability to throw the football at the high school level. Now, his next test will be showing Scott Frost and the program that they made the right decision in recruiting him. With Adrian Martinez having enough skill to potentially leave school early and Andrew Bunch still mulling over a transfer decision, we may see McCaffrey sooner than we think.

One thing is for sure: The Nebraska football coaches feel confident in the player they recruited. They view him as a multi-tool player in the sense that he does many things well. Throwing for 2,202 yards, 21 touchdowns, and four interceptions this season, McCaffrey also proved to be an accurate passer throughout his high school career, completing 60% of his passes. Frost believes that McCaffrey is the type of quarterback that Nebraska needs. Just ask Scott Frost.

"“As we got to to know Luke, we started leaning in that direction. He called and wanted to commit, and we were excited about it. Love his athletic ability, love his mentality and he throws it really well too. I think that improved this year, and he’s going to have a chance to get in here early as an early enrollee and get involved with spring ball so we can’t wait to have him.”"

With McCaffrey moving into school early, this means he will have a chance to participate in spring ball.  As far as his development goes, that can only mean good things. He can get a jump on what the playbook means and the types of formations and signals needed for a Nebraska quarterback to be successful. The way I look at it, McCaffrey already has a ton of skill. Now, it’s just a matter of getting him used to the Nebraska football program. With the possibility of Adrian Martinez leaving school early, McCaffrey may have big shoes to fill down the road, and any preparation is a bonus. Getting him started right now is important in order to minimize a drastic drop off for the program should Martinez leave school.

I certainly feel confident handing him the reins when it’s time. It’s not too often a team falls into a tremendous quarterback situation like Nebraska has at the moment. That not only benefits the program right now, it benefits them in the long term and helps sustain success. I am excited to see what McCaffrey can do. The fact that he moves into campus next week only heightens my excitement. We may be seeing the beginning of the future right now.
