Nebraska Football: Mosai Newsom ready to make impact for program
Newsome is ready to make his mark on the Nebraska Football program.
Nebraska football fans should be very excited about the future. With the 2019 recruiting class teeming with talent, this program could be set up for success for a long time. It is safe to say that players in the program feel that type of energy as well. Particularly in the 2019 class, they can be the ones to build the Nebraska football program up again and help the team become one of the best in the country.
Mosai Newsom is one of the many players that are buying into the future of the Nebraska football program. The strong-side defensive end committed to the program over the summer and took a visit to Lincoln on November 17. Recruited by defensive coordinator Erik Chinander, the 6-foot-3 252-pound athlete wants to build his own legacy at Nebraska and help contribute to making the program successful again.
"“The fact that we can take a program and bring it back to where it once was, bring it back to greatness, and that I get the opportunity to be a part of that, that was just awesome to me,” Newsom said."
As he told 247Sports, camaraderie is a huge reason why this team has the potential to be successful. Being on a football team myself for many years, I can attest to that. With the amount of talent that this Nebraska program possesses, if they get on the same page in the off-season, they could be a force in the Big Ten not only in 2019 but in the years to come.
"“Comparing it with other classmates of mine at my school, we’re so far ahead,” Newsom told Husker247. “We know who we’re rooming with, and we just know more about our teammates and who we’re going to be living with every single day. I got pretty close with a lot of the guys. Sometimes a little too close, but it’s awesome to have that.”"
I love the fact that Newsom is making comments like this. The comments are not too cocky, and they also clearly define where he wants to head. He not only wants to be the best, but he wants his team to be the best. That’s the type of energy that you want to have from your players. Especially after a down 4-8 season, having a new group of players that is excited to help out the program and wants to win can only lead to good results. Newsom should play a key role in turning the program around.
The Big Ten conference is not an easy one to navigate. Nebraska football found that out last year. However, this off-season has shown that Nebraska is committed to being able to play with the likes of Ohio State and others via their aggressiveness on the recruiting trail and the fact that everyone in the program seems to be focused on having a better 2019 season. It seems like the goal is to win, and that is certainly a great sign.
Scott Frost seems as though he is changing the culture for the better. That could lead to many fun Saturdays ahead.
