Scott Frost spoke about quarterback Andrew Bunch and his looking into a transfer recently on a local television interview.

In the modern world of college football, players transferring and talking to other schools isn’t out of the ordinary. In fact, it’s part of the rules. While Nebraska football doesn’t look to have a lot of players leaving the program via transfer after some players did it this fall, one guy that is exploring a transfer though is backup quarterback Andrew Bunch.

Bunch started the game against Troy last season for Nebraska football and also finished off the game against Colorado, however, the Huskers were 0-2 in both outings. Bunch, a former three-star walk-on, played simply because Adrian Martinez was hurt and there was no other backup on the depth chart.

Noad Vedral eventually became the backup when he was cleared by the NCAA, but that didn’t happen until later in the season. Now, Vedral is No. 2 on the depth chart and Bunch is No. 3.

Yet, Luke McCaffrey is also joining the team soon and he will certainly make a run for one of those top three spots. At the very least, he makes it unlikely that Bunch will ever be given a chance to start unless there is another injury or two.

Because of this, Bunch has started exploring a transfer, hoping to find a school that would offer him a better shot at some playing time. For its part, Nebraska football has said it would still welcome the chance to bring back Bunch and for more, here is what Frost had to say according to KLKN.

"“I really like the kid, and I want what’s best for him. I think after talking to him he just wants to explore his options and see if there’s a place out there where he can get out on the field and play or have a better chance to get on the field and play. If he doesn’t find that then we’ll welcome him back here with open arms. He’s been a great teammate and a great part of our team. I want what’s best for him no matter what he decides.”"

A lot of times coaches use double talk but I find this statement to be pretty genuine from Frost. If Bunch gets a chance to play or compete for a starting job elsewhere at the FBS level, he should take it. If not, returning to Nebraska might not be a bad idea. He already had a slew of FCS offers before walking on and didn’t want them.

Maybe he will change his mind, but it seems that he thinks those two games he played helped improve his stock. Time will tell, but if he ends up at Nebraska football, it wouldn’t be a bad thing at all. He’s not a bad player and at the very least, he is a backup with some experience.
