Nebraska Football: 3 things on the Huskers Christmas wish list
Huskers haven’t won a conference championship since 1999
It’s hard to believe but if the Huskers don’t win the Big Ten championship next season, they will have gone 20 seasons without winning a conference title.
While it is much more difficult to win conference championships now than it used to be, it’s still amazing that Nebraska has fallen that far. Of course, there have been chances as Nebraska made the Big 12 championship game in 2006, 2009 and 2010. The Huskers also played for the Big Ten championship in 2012.
Unfortunately, they didn’t win any of those games and the Big Ten title game against Wisconsin was a major embarrassment. That was kind of the beginning of the end for Pelini. His team was one win away from the Rose Bowl and they got beat by 50.
First things first, Nebraska has to win the Big Ten West, which seems possible. Iowa, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Minnesota are all going to be formidable rivals in the coming years, but there is no reason Nebraska can’t rule the division as Wisconsin has. Frost is taking the right steps and next season, with Iowa, Wisconsin and Northwestern all coming to Lincoln, a Big Ten West title is not out of the question, although a Big Ten championship is probably still down the road.
But hey, Santa is known for making our wishes come true right? Maybe he will grant us this wish early next December.
