Getting back to a bowl game

When Bo Pelini was the head coach at Nebraska, the Huskers were regular participants in bowl games and never won less than nine games overall. However, the program never seemed headed in the right direction either.

That is what led to the hiring of Mike Riley and he was a disaster. He did get Nebraska football into the Foster Farms Bowl his first season, yet that was after a 5-7 campaign. Nebraska still beat a ranked UCLA team and finished 6-7.

However, that was the Huskers last bowl win. Nebraska lost in the Music City Bowl after the 2016 season but back-to-back 4-8 seasons have kept NU from postseason play.

It was actually the first time since 1967 and 1968 that Nebraska didn’t make a bowl game in consecutive seasons, but had Martinez not gotten hurt against Colorado, the Huskers might have won just enough games to get back. And while it’s obviously too late for this year, the promise of getting back to a bowl game in 2019 would be a great Christmas gift.
