Nebraska Football: Huskers get official visit with 3-star CB D.J. James
Nebraska football is making a late push for D.J. James, a three-star corner and after getting an offer, James has now set up an official visit.
If you are following the recruiting of Nebraska football closely, then you probably already know the name of three-star cornerback D.J. James.
James, who is committed to Mississippi State, didn’t sign his letter of intent last week, which has left open his recruitment until February. That prompted Nebraska football to make a late charge for the late-rising prospect and the Huskers officially extended him an offer Friday.
Making an offer is one thing but it doesn’t mean a team actually has a chance of securing a player. Lots of players get lots of offers. However, when a player sets up a visit, then things get a little more serious and that is exactly what James did with Nebraska football.
According to Sean Callahan of Rivals, James will visit the Nebraska football program on Jan. 11. The full article by Callahan requires a rivals subscription just so you know, however, that doesn’t change the fact that James will indeed visit Nebraska.
So what does this mean?
Well, it means that Nebraska must have a legitimate chance of landing James. At this point, he has a couple of months to go before signing, so I doubt he would take a visit somewhere if he didn’t have some serious level of interest.
The corner from Alabama looks like a good bet to flip to Auburn according to 247sports, but there is a long way to go in the process. Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have also visited James recently, so that’s another hat in the ring along with Nebraska, Auburn and Mississippi State.
James was playing at an All-Star game recently and that’s where he started to garner even more attention. Now that he is left unsigned, he is one of the better corners still available and as head coach Scott Frost said, Nebraska was going to go after the best recruits remaining. So game on.
For now, we will have to wait and see how things progress with James. However, if his visit Jan. 11 goes well, the Huskers could have a real shot at landing him, which would add another solid defensive back to the 2019 recruiting class.
