Nebraska Football did well in securing Brant Banks.
Although many of the top prospects did not end up choosing Nebraska Football, the Huskers did get one key recruit that was thought to be a big get for the program. 2019 offensive tackle Brant Banks (Westebury Christian School | Houston, TX) committed to the program on Wednesday. He made the announcement at his high school.
Banks is the No. 112 offensive tackle in his class and the No. 131 player in the state of Texas per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Banks had 20 offers to choose from in total, and Baylor in particular was thought to be another school very much in play for him. Thankfully, he chose Nebraska. He was recruited by offensive line coach Greg Austin.
This is another great get for the Nebraska football program. They are young on the line already, but they have a ton of talent. Currently, they are led by senior tackle Freedom Akinmoladun. With seven lineman in total and three juniors in the class, more youth was needed at the position. With the size that Banks brings to the table, he can serve as both a pivotal pass protector and a run blocker that can create lanes with ease.
Particularly with the quarterback talent that Nebraska possesses as well as the skills of the running backs, Banks could be a huge get. Although he may not seem like he can be a key contributor at this moment, he will certainly be a key piece for the future. A good offensive line makes a great offense. In a conference that values offense highly, protection for the key players both under center and in the backfield will be paramount. Measuring in at six-foot-seven, 265 pounds, Banks will be able to provide security while running the offense.
The program needed a player that could help them now and down the road, and Brant Banks can do that. The fact that Nebraska was able to land him now versus signing day in February is also significant. He will now have more time to get acclimated to his surroundings. He is scheduled to report to campus at the beginning of January.
Head coach Scott Frost continues to make waves on the recruiting trail and the commitment of Banks could be the start of something special.
