The Nebraska Football program extended a walk-on offer to a talented tackle.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers may have suffered a loss on the recruiting trail Monday, but they picked up where they left off as Nebraska Football offered walk-on player Jake Steward. Steward made the announcement via Twitter on Monday afternoon.

Per his official profile from 247Sports, Stewart has also received a walk-on offer from Arkansas. However as noted  on his Twitter page, he also has offers from the likes of Kansas State and Oklahoma.

The offensive tackle is listed at 6-foot-5, 305 pounds and hails from Gardner, Kan. He can run a 5.60 40-yard dash, which is certainly an acceptable time for an offensive lineman. They generally do not need to be the fastest guys on a football field.

As noted earlier in the month, Scott Frost and the Nebraska football program have really done a nice job with of their walk-on class. So far, they have nine commitments in the walk-on group. This I do not have a problem with, I like what Frost is doing to include the walk-on guys on this team. Sometimes, those guys are your hardest workers. It is definitely important to mix four and five-star guys with players who are just happy to be on the team. You need a balance of both.

It seems as though Nebraska has made offensive line a priority. Currently, they have five offensive lineman on the team and three in the 2019 class. In particular, four-star offensive tackle Bryce Benhart is certainly the crown jewel of the offensive lineman in the class. This will only add to the youth at the position as junior tackle Christian Gaylord is the senior member of the group.

I will go on the record as saying I love the fact that Nebraska is paying special attention to the offensive line. You need people who can protect the quarterback. In addition, they could certainly help improve the rushing attack which ranked in the middle of the country with 2,508 yards on the season. This offense certainly has the talent to be special and Steward can be a big part of that down the road. Especially with the quarterback and running back talent coming into the program, they will certainly need all the help they can get in making sure their offense runs smoothly.

It will be interesting to see if Steward chooses Nebraska over his other walk-on offers. If in fact he does, this could give additional credence to the fact that Nebraska it has been doing a wonderful job with their walk-on program.
