One of the targets for Nebraska football right now is Amare Barno. But after he visited Virginia Tech this weekend, things aren’t looking good for the Huskers.

Just like every other team across the country, it was a busy weekend of recruiting for Nebraska football, as it tries to lock down commits with the early-signing period just days away.

While Nebraska football didn’t come away with anything solid this weekend, there should be some news coming in Monday about at least one player the Huskers are trying to get to Lincoln and that’s junior college outside linebacker Amare Barno.

Barno, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound edge rusher, is exactly the kind of guy Nebraska has been looking for. They want guys who can play on the edge in their odd-front defense and Barno seems like a perfect fit. He’s long, athletic and can bend around the corner.

Unfortunately, even though he is making his announcement Monday, the indications are looking like he is leaning towards committing to the Hokies.

Barno visited Nebraska football before taking his visit to Virginia Tech and while things seemed to go well at Nebraska, just a couple of days after his visit to the Hokies and he is ready to commit. That doesn’t seem like a good sign. And even though it doesn’t always matter, when it’s a close battle for a recruit, the last word can mean everything and Nebraska didn’t get it. At least not in person.

Backing up the idea that Barno is going to choose the Hokies is the fact that all of his crystal balls on 247sports are now with Virginia Tech. It’s unanimous and while it’s still just a prediction, generally, those things tend to be right. And since this weekend, there has been little chatter about Nebraska football.

Those predictions aren’t made without some type of knowledge, to say the least.  Obviously, Barno could change his mind and it’s possible Nebraska is trying to recruit him until the bitter end.

At the very least, Nebraska is in the top two and technically still has a shot. However, it would be surprising if, when Barno makes his announcement today, his choice is the Huskers, not the Hokies.
