Nebraska Basketball took care of business in this one.

Coming off of their first win against Creighton since the 2010-11 season last weekend, the Nebraska Cornhuskers looked to beat the Oklahoma State Cowboys, and improve to 9-2 for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign. It was not a smooth start, as both teams started off rather sloppily, but Nebraska Basketball found their footing and came away with a 79-56 victory.

The first half was a defensive battle. Both teams did not want to give an inch, and both played well defensively. A usual catalyst for the Oklahoma State offense, Junior Cameron McGriff made the first basket of the game for the Cowboys. Ironically, those were the only two points he would score. James Palmer Jr. made his presence known early in this game. He led the team in scoring during last week’s win against Creighton, and he would be the leading scorer again here in this contest.

Stingy defense was being played by both sides, but the one thing that seemed to work for the Cowboys was being able to drive to the basket at will. Nebraska had trouble establishing a defensive presence inside the paint and Oklahoma State took advantage of it. If there was something the two programs had in common, it was turnovers. Turnovers plagued both teams throughout not only the first half but the entire game and the final numbers had turnovers 12-19 in favor of Nebraska. However, there were signs that Nebraska was starting to play a more focused game of basketball. They ended the half on a 12-2 run, something that would benefit them later. As the buzzer rang to end the first half, Nebraska held a narrow 32-30 lead.

That narrow lead did not last for long however. It seemed as though once the second half started, it was an entirely different ballgame. Nebraska tightened up defensively, and those mistakes in the paint that they were making were no longer an issue. Not only that, the shots they were missing in the first half went through the net in the second frame. Glynn Watson Jr. scored the first points for the huskers, and the team never looked back. Particular, Palmer ramped up the offense of attack by getting to the line. He would make a total of 13 free throws in the second half and that put separation between the two teams. Overall, Nebraska would get contributions from all players on the floor as Watson, Issac Copeland Jr. and Isaiah Roby would all make contributions of their own as Nebraska walked away with another victory.

Palmer was very sharp in this one, going 9-for-17 on field goals. He went 3-for-4 from behind the three  point line and 16-for-17 at the free throw line. He finished with 29 points overall. Copeland was a great secondary option, scoring 16 points, going 7-for-11 on field goals and 1-for-3 at the three point line. Overall, it was a great team win for Nebraska. Their next game will be on Saturday, December 22 at home against Cal State Fullerton. Tipoff is slated for 2-00 p.m. Eastern time and can be seen on the Big Ten Network.
