Maurice Washington and JD Spielman give Nebraska plenty of weapons

Everyone wants to talk about Adrian Martinez and for good reason, however, there are some other players on the Nebraska offense that should generate plenty of excitement in their own right.

One of those guys is freshman running back Maurice Washington. The back, who is also a talented pass catcher, only touched the ball 101 times in 2018, yet he turned that into 676 total yards and three touchdowns, one of those came in the fourth quarter against Iowa, a game in which he caught seven passes for 102 yards.

The Iowa game was one of seven that saw Washington catch at least two passes. He also had some stellar moments as a runner, such as his 14-carry, 109-yard, two-touchdown performance against Minnesota. He also had three carries for 67 yards against Illinois.

While Washington is one guy to be excited about, the fact that JD Spielman will be back for his junior year is also good news. In two years already, Spielman has 121 receptions for 1,648 yards and 10 touchdowns. He had more than 800 yards in both his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Offensive playmakers matter and right now, Nebraska has at least one at running back, quarterback and wide receiver.
