Defense: C-

I thought long and hard about giving the Blackshirts a D for their performance against the Hawkeyes, but it was hard to give them a failing grade.

The final results though weren’t that great. The Huskers allowed more than 400 total yards to the Hawkeyes and gave up 266 on the ground. However, against Nathan Stanley, a very good quarterback, the Huskers allowed just 16-of-27 completions for 152 yards.

Yet, the Huskers allowed two touchdown passes and the key conversion on 4th-and-8 which allowed Iowa to kick the game-winning field goal. The worst part of the day for the Blackshirt defense was that it did not tally a single sack or turnover.

If you are going to beat good teams on the road, your defense needs to come up with some game-changing plays and against the Hawkeyes, that just didn’t happen. It just showed that Nebraska still has some work to do, especially on defense if it wants to contend in the Big Ten West next season.
