Nebraska Football: 5 things we learned from the Huskers loss to Iowa
Nebraska is headed in the right direction
It was tough to see Nebraska football lose to Iowa for the fourth-straight season. It was also difficult to realize that the Huskers were going to finish with their third losing season and the past four years. That is unacceptable in Lincoln, but don’t worry, change is in the air.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
While no one is interested in moral victories, especially Scott Frost, there is no question, Nebraska played Iowa tougher and better than under Mike Riley, who got his doors blown off every time against Iowa.
Yes, Iowa still looks tougher than Nebraska. But Frost is just getting started and he knows what needs to change. He knows that to win the Big Ten West, Nebraska has to get more physical, particularly on defense.
The Blackshirts have got to be a cornerstone of this rebuild. That’s the one thing that has never really been fixed. The defense was great at times under Bo Pelini, but the Blackshirts have been abused time and time again in the Big Ten and until that changes, Nebraska won’t be anything but mediocre.
The offense, which went over 400 yards in eight of the last nine games is already there. Now, it’s time to rebuild the Blackshirts and when that happens, Nebraska football will finally be back.
Not back like the 1990s but back in the sense that it will be a legit title contender in the West division and the Big Ten as a whole. Those days are coming and with Frost, they shouldn’t be too far down the road.
