Nebraska Football: 5 things we learned from the Huskers loss to Iowa
Maurice Washington is going to be a dangerous threat next season
It’s obvious that Martinez is one reason to be excited about the future of this Nebraska football team, but another guy, at least on offense that should generate plenty of his own excitement is running back Maurice Washington.
Washington, a running back, didn’t do much on the ground against Iowa, running the ball just five times for nine yards. However, he did tremendous damage as a pass catcher, which shows just how dangerous he can be in the future.
When it was all said and done, Washington caught seven passes Friday against the Hawkeyes and racked up 102 yards to go along with a touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter.
Martinez found Washington running up the sideline and it was a perfect strike for a score. That trimmed the Iowa lead down to 28-20 and put the Huskers in position to come back and win the game. Washington rushed for over 460 yards and average six yards per attempt this season and also had 24 receptions and more than 200 yards.
With all that production, it’s safe to say that Washington is poised for a breakout season in 2019 and that’s just another reason to be excited about next season.
