Martinez continues to show he will be a star

Martinez wasn’t perfect against the Hawkeyes. But there were still a lot of things to like about his performance. He completed 26-of-38 passes for 260 yards. He also ran for 76 and accounted for three touchdowns.

Martinez did all that against the third-ranked defense in the Big Ten and he also did it without much of a running game. He was the Huskers leading rusher and finished the season accounting for 25 total touchdowns, 17 touchdown passes and eight touchdown runs.

Sure, Martinez needs to get better on third downs and his fourth-quarter interception proved costly. He has plenty of room to grow, but that’s the exciting thing. After getting a full offseason to work with Frost and mature even more as a quarterback, he should be even better next season.

The future is bright at Nebraska and Martinez is one of the biggest reasons why along with coach Frost. That combination is a very good reason why Nebraska football will be back in a bowl game next year. It’s also why the Iowa losing streak will end soon.
