Special teams: A

It’s crazy that just two weeks ago, Nebraska had a disastrous day on special teams. It actually was so bad it went viral after a really bad onside kick attempt. But in the last two weeks, it has been a dramatic difference and the kicking game has been redeemed. Last week, against Illinois, the Huskers got two special teams turnovers and a safety.

This week the kicking game was also vital to winning the game. Barret Pickering, a freshman, came up huge for the Huskers, drilling three field goals in windy conditions in the fourth quarter. The game-winner was from 47 yards out in a clutch kick that gave Nebraska its biggest win of the season.

Coaches: A

I know I am giving out a lot of A’s, but you have to give Frost and the coaching staff credit for this win. When the season was going down the tubes and Nebraska football started 0-6 for the first time ever, the ship didn’t sink. It kept treading water and now is surging forward.

Frost rallied the troops. He and his staff have the Huskers playing like a team that could actually contend in the Big Ten West and the win over Michigan State is more proof of that.

Nebraska beat one of the top football programs in the Big Ten and the coaches had a lot to do with it. Frost also made a great call kicking the field goal when it was 47 yards out instead of going for it. It wasn’t a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a significant win and for that, the coaches really do deserve high marks.
