Nebraska Football: 5 things we learned from Huskers win against Illinois
The tide is turning at Nebraska
As I said in the opening of this post, this was a big win for Nebraska football and a big win for Frost. After back-to-back wins over Minnesota and Bethune-Cookman, plus a near upset of Ohio State last week, the Huskers finally had momentum on their side.
They needed a win over Illinois in order to keep it and Nebraska exploded out of the gates, scoring 38-first half points on their way to the win. It was the third straight home game with 38 points in the first half and yet another game with at least 450 yards (Nebraska finished with over 600).
While this season has been tough, the Huskers are headed in the right direction. The next two weeks will be a great chance to prove that against Michigan State and Iowa, but the program has already shown a lot of progress.
Nebraska has already scored more points than it did in 12 games a season ago and best of all, the Huskers have a star at quarterback for the first time in years. Winning out would really help keep it going, but for now, it’s simply good that Nebraska is trending in the right direction.
