Nebraska Football: 5 things we learned from Huskers win against Illinois
Defense gave up yards and points, but made impact plays
It wasn’t always pretty for Nebraska on defense against Illinois, yet the Huskers were able to make some impact plays when they needed to.
Obviously, when you give up more than 500 yards and 35 points, there is still a lot of work to do. But part of that is the way Nebraska plays offense. The game is set up to have lots of plays and that can sometimes put pressure on your defense.
But after forcing three turnovers last week against Ohio State, the defense forced three more against Illinois. The Huskers intercepted Illinois quarterback AJ Bush twice and also sacked him three times while also recovering a fumble.
Add in the two special teams turnovers and the blocked punt and it was a pretty good day all around for the Huskers — not just the offense.
