Nebraska basketball opens its season tonight against Mississippi Valley State. Here is everything you need to know ahead of the 2018-19 season.
In case you didn’t know, the Nebraska basketball team officially opens the 2018-19 season tonight in Lincoln and the Huskers will do that against Mississippi Valley State.
Mississippi Valley State does some have history, that’s where Jerry Rice played his college football after all, but in college basketball, the Delta isn’t very good. They are rank 348 in the Kenpom rankings, while Nebraska basketball checks in at No. 38.
After going 13-5 in the Big Ten last season and missing out on the NCAA Tournament, it really feels like March Madness or bust for head coach Tim Miles and the Huskers. Nebraska made a great run back in 2013-14, but the Huskers haven’t made it back since. In fact, last year was the first time Nebraska was back in tournament contention in three seasons after three straight losing campaigns.
The Huskers won 22 games a season ago and went to the NIT; They even beat the national runner-up in Michigan by 20 points at home. However, they didn’t win any significant games out of the conference and didn’t do enough on the road. The weird, unbalanced Big Ten schedule didn’t do them any favors either.
Yet, it was still a step in the right direction for Nebraska basketball and starting out, all the bracket projections have them heading to the big dance. The expectations are going to be high for this upcoming season and with that in mind, here is everything you need to know about 2018-19 in a few slides.
