Special teams: F

If you saw the onside kick attempted by Nebraska kicker Caleb Lightbourn, then you know why the Nebraska special teams deserve a failing grade. It’s not good to become trending for something because it’s so bad. That was just ugly.

Then, to make matters worse, Nebraska got a punt blocked when it was up 7-0. It led to an Ohio State safety but after the safety punt, the Buckeyes went and grabbed the lead. The points didn’t cost Nebraska that much, but the shift in momentum was certainly pronounced.

Coaching: A

Regardless of the outcome, coach Frost had his team believing it could win and Nebraska almost pulled a shocking upset. Frost was aggressive in his approach, like when he went for it on fourth-and-two on the opening drive. That gamble paid off. This onside kick didn’t, but after his defense held on a fourth down, the onside kick fail didn’t hurt either.

Frost also put together a solid plan for his young quarterback, who played very well on a big stage. This was the toughest test since Michigan and while the Huskers didn’t win, they were up for the challenge and that was a big step forward for this program.
