Nebraska Football: Grading the Huskers loss to Ohio State
Defense: B
There was part of me that wanted to give the Blackshirts an A for their effort against Ohio State, however, that would be like grading on a curve. Just because Nebraska football allowed an average of 60 points per game in previous two meetings versus the Buckeyes doesn’t mean that allowing 483 yards and 36 points is good. It’s an improvement though.
The really disappointing thing was the way Nebraska allowed Ohio State to run the ball in the second half. Leading by five at the intermission, it seemed like the Huskers had a shot, but the Buckeyes were the more physical team in the second half. For the game, they averaged 5.7 yards per rush and racked up 229 yards.
On the plus side, Nebraska forced three turnovers and four punts. JoJo Domann forced a fumble and so did Luke Gifford. In the second half, Lamar Jackson intercepted a Dwayne Haskins pass in the end zone, ending an Ohio State drive.
There was a good of things to take away from the performance of the defense. Hopefully, that will transfer over to the final three games of the season.
