Scott Frost didn’t get a signature win, but he showed the program is improving

It would have been so sweet for Scott Frost and the Huskers to upset Ohio State Saturday. A win like that is one that really can change a program. A win like that would have been a monumental step forward. It also would have kept the Huskers fading bowl hopes alive.

Unfortunately, Nebraska couldn’t hold its 5-point halftime lead. Ohio State was the better team in the second half and the Huskers just couldn’t find a way to finish. But they never gave up and in a number of different areas, the team showed improvement.

Nebraska ran the ball effectively against a very good team on the road and the defense did a respectable job. Unlike when Mike Riley was the coach, Nebraska didn’t look inferior or intimidated and crazy as it sounds, even at 2-6, the Huskers looked like they expected to win.

After a 0-6 start, that’s pretty impressive. Coach Frost has this team believing and with three games remaining, Nebraska is playing some of its best football.

A bowl game is out of reach, yet with games against Michigan State, Illinois and Iowa remaining, the Huskers still have time to make an even bigger statement about the positive direction of the program.
