Nebraska Football: Monday press conference has different feel after win
By Kelli Anne
The Nebraska football team notched their first win of the season on Saturday against Minnesota, and you could see a big difference in the mood of the Monday press conference.
A lot of Nebraska football players took to the podium on a Monday morning (not unusual) but this time without having had to practice today. Coach Frost and company gave the team the day off. This makes 2 in a row because Sunday is for rest as well.
Some highlights of the Monday presser, via Huskers.com:
Husker offensive lineman Jerald Foster smiled and said he liked sleeping in until eight. Other tidbits from him included his high praise for the fan base. “It was great being able to get a win, the fans all being there.” He went on to clarify “…it’s not too big of a surprise, we have the greatest fans. I expected that from them. I’m happy to see they’re sticking with us.”
Foster was also pleased with himself for not making the penalty sheet this week. Huskers only had 6 this past Saturday. And go figure, yes some of those were questionable.

Nebraska sophomore offensive lineman Matt Farniok said he didn’t mind having a game on what was the bye week originally. “We have a game during the bye week. Who doesn’t want to play football?” He talked about how the game against Michigan and their defense showed the Huskers where their weaknesses were. He told the press they’ve been trying each week to improve upon those areas.
Quarterback Adrian Martinez was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week. When Coach Frost was told he furrowed his blond brow and said, “Co–? Who is the other one?” When he was told it was the wide receiver Rondale Moore from Purdue who was instrumental in beating down Ohio State, he chuckled and agreed that he probably deserved it too. Way to go Adrian!
When asked about his award, the Nebraska freshman QB responded well. Someone has his talking points and media relations on point. “I couldn’t get the award without the protection being there, without the playmakers on the outside, without Ziggy getting his yards… It’s a blessing to be in this offense.” Well done, Mr. Martinez. Keep up the good work.
Martinez was 25 of 29, for 276 yards and three touchdowns on the day. Coach Frost said he’d never thrown 29 passes in a game but he admitted he definitely wouldn’t have made 25 of them. It’s refreshing to see a coach happy for his team without gloating about himself.
It’s an early 11 am kickoff on BTN for the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday. Once the team gets rolling, perhaps you’ll see some new faces. I’d like to see backup QB Noah Vedral get a shot now that he’s cleared to play.
Rumor is it’s an early game the November 3rd, for Ohio State (UGHHHH) as well. 11 am gets really freaking old. I’m hoping it’s too early for OSU to want to bounce back after the thrashing by Purdue. Regardless, get excited, there’s still lots of football to be played. As always, GO BIG RED!
