Nebraska football opens as heavy underdog to Northwestern
The Nebraska football team is entering its fourth straight game as an underdog.
There might be some more positivity surrounding the Nebraska football team than earlier in the year, but Vegas is not remotely sold on the Huskers. The early lines were released on Sunday and Northwestern has been named an 8.5 point favorite.
That line is likely going to be a bit offensive to longtime Husker fans. The program was never supposed to get to a point where Northwestern would be heavily favored to beat the Cornhuskers. Not even in Evanston.
Of course, the Huskers were never supposed to get to a point where they were desperately hoping to avoid going 0-6. The line actually makes quite a bit of sense when you take a look at the two schools’ season so far.

Yes, Northwestern is only 2-3, but those two wins are against Purdue and then 20th ranked Michigan State. That’s the same Purdue team that came into Lincoln and thoroughly handled the Huskers last weekend.
Nebraska hasn’t really come close to beating a Top 20 team either. The Wildcats also gave Michigan all they could handle a week ago. That’s the same Michigan that absolutely dominated the Huskers a few weeks back.
When you really take a look at how the two seasons have unfolded so far, it’s a bit of a surprise that the Wildcats are favored by more points. One thing that is in Nebraska football’s favor is that they were just over 17-point dogs to Wisconsin and they were able to just barely cover that spread.
